Councillors

Cllr Derek Bell

Having lived in the Chester area for nearly 50 years and moving to Barnhill in 2014 I am familiar with the region and at a stage in my life where I feel I have time to be more active in the life of the area. I am ‘retired’ after working in science education throughout my career as a teacher (primary and secondary), university lecturer, and holding senior positions in national organisations as well as being a Trustee on the boards of various charitable organisations including the Sandstone Ridge Trust. Married with twin daughters and a grandson, my interests include a range of sporting activities, photography, and walking.

Cllr Helen Rogers

My name is Helen Rogers and I live in Brown Knowl. I have lived in the village for three years and live with my husband and pet chickens including Clarence the cockerel. I work at Keele University in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences as a Faculty Operations Manager. I enjoy playing tennis, reading, and walking (sometimes running) out on the Bickerton hill.

Cllr David Williams

David grew up in Brown Knowl village from 1983 with many generations of his family residing in the parish. He attended the local Harthill Primary School and has fond memories of growing up in the local area. After moving away and living in various locations within the UK and overseas, David found his way back to the village several years ago.
He currently works as the Operations Manager for Global Air Training Ltd situated in Burwardsley who specialises in delivering Human Factors training to the aviation industry as well as healthcare, energy production and other safety-critical organisations.
In his free time, he is an adult volunteer with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets acting as the training officer for the local 617 Squadron (Bishop Heber) Malpas.
As well as assisting with the full range of RAF Air Cadet activities he is also fond of several outdoor pursuits and enjoys taking full advantage of the walks the local area has to offer.
David has now been a councillor within our parish since 2017.

Cllr Steve Wild

Hi, I’m Steve Wild.  I’ve been farming at Holy Bank, Brown Knowl for 35 years and joined the Parish Council in 2002. I have a passion for the area we all have the privilege of living and for me working in.  I hope you enjoy the area as much as I do.

Carol Shadbolt

Having lived in Brown Knowl, Broxton for over 30 years and organised many fund-raising events for Bickerton Village Hall I feel that I am in a good position to represent the community on the Parish Council. The ‘Bickerton Youth Music Group’ was a successful club for musical teenagers, the ‘Bickerton Film Nights’ regularly drew in a large audience, and the ‘Rural Touring Network’ enabled me to stage theatrical productions that drew an audience from all over Cheshire. The Photovoltaic panels for which I raised £34,000 in grant funds have helped to power the hall through ‘green’ electricity generation since 2009. This area of Cheshire has many beautiful walks through wooded areas. I hope as a member of the Broxton and District Parish Council to encourage initiatives to make this Parish a cleaner, greener, and safer place to live.
